Agartala May 06: In a significant development, general secretary Tapan Das of Tripura Brick Kiln Workers’ Union held a representative meeting with the Commissioner, Labour Department, Ashim Saha on Monday.
The meeting aimed to address critical issues faced by the brick kiln workers across the state.
During the meeting, Das highlighted several pressing concerns including delay in dispersal of wages even after long days of work completion.
“First and foremost, the brick kiln workers, especially the migrant workers who come from outer states during the working season are facing a harrowing ordeal as the owners are refusing to pay their hard-earned wages after a full season of labour”, he said while talking to the reporters.
“The migrant workers are spending days in uncertainty as they are unable to travel back to their homes with their families”, he added.
Das further mentioned that the Union held talks with the concerned authorities of the brick kilns as well as the Labour Department on earlier occasions but nothing has been done so far to resolve the issue.
In the day’s deputation, the members of the Left workers’ wing demanded the Labour Commissioner to ensure immediate disbursal of pending wages and arrangements like tickets, food and water for the migrant workers for travelling back to their native places.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Asim Sahar assured the delegation that the Labor Department would take necessary steps to address these grievances promptly. The meeting concluded with a commitment to work collaboratively towards ensuring the welfare of brick kiln workers in Tripura.
