Food, metrology officials conduct raid to check abnormal price, irregularities

Bishalgarh, April 26: Officials of Food and Legal Metrology department on Friday conducted a raid in various business establishments of New Market in Bishalgarh to check abnormal prices of essential commodities and irregularities.
The raid was led by Deputy Director of Food Swapan Debbarma, Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology Nita Debnath, and Food Safety Officers of Bishalgarh Sub-division. The raid was conducted based on specific information of abnormal price rise of onion, potatoes, and sugar in different shops.
During the raid, the deputy director Swapan Debbarma told reporters that irregularities were found in multiple shops in New Market at Bishalgarh and accordingly legal action will be taken against those shop owners.
Briefing the media about the irregularities found during the raid, Debbarma said that some shops were found running without price lists, while irregularities in weight and measures were found in some shops, while lack of documents were found in other shops. Notice will be issued on Saturday to the shop owners, who are running their shops with irregularities and without valid documents, he told reporters.
On the other hand, alarmed by the raid, a major section of shop owners had shut down their business establishment in New Market on Friday.
