Mother loses foetus in Ambulance crash; 6 other injured

Agartala March 26: In a heart wrenching incident, an unborn child died inside the mothers’ womb following an ambulance accident.
The ambulance driver was allegedly intoxicated and lost control of the vehicle while ferrying a pregnant woman and another patient along with their family members from Melaghar to GB Hospital, Agartala on late Monday night.
“Earlier we could not understand but later we came to know that the ambulance driver was heavily drunk and lost control of the vehicle as we reached Dropgate area on the way to Agartala GB Hospital from Melaghar hospital on being referred by the doctors on duty”, said husband of the victim housewife, Tejendra Das.
“My wife, Lipika Sutradhar was already suffering from labour pain and after an operation at the GB Hospital, the doctors informed that the baby had died inside her womb. Presently, she too is undergoing treatment following critical post-delivery symptoms.”, he added.
Lipika’s husband further demanded a proper inquiry of the incident and stern punishment of the ambulance driver adding that “the incident would not have happened if the driver was not under the influence of alcohol”.
Meanwhile, another patient around 80 years of age who was suffering from other ailments and family members of both the patients, a total of seven persons have been injured in the catastrophic accident.
All are presently undergoing treatment at the GB Hospital.
The driver has been apprehended by the concerned authorities and an investigation is under process to inquire into the incident.
