Churaibari/Ambasa May 02: In a tragic incident that unfolded in the wee hours of Thursday at Dimahasao district of South Assam, a job aspirant youth of Tripura died on spot while six others are critically injured following an accident of the bus carrying the youths for recruitment exam of Tripura State Cooperative Bank (TSCB).
According to reports, the bus numbered AS 01 MC 0243, sponsored by the Tripura government for carrying candidates to different places in Assam including Guwahati for appearing in the recruitment examination, overturned on the road and hit a divider resulting in skidding off a drain.
Hearing the crashing sound of the bus, locals hurried to the spot and also informed the concerned authorities including the Fire and Emergency Service department.
The critically injured youths were hurried to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) in Cachar district for treatment while rest others were shifted to nearby Halflong and Harangajao hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Deepraj Debbarma (33), resident of Tripura’s Dhalai district. Whose body will be brought back to the state for last rites after an autopsy at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
Meanwhile, Alosis Molsom (23), resident of Ambassa, Balaram Mondal (25), resident of Boko, Guwahati, Lalremnal Molsom (24), resident of Ambasa, Sondro Sekhar Jamatia (30), resident of Ompinagar, Golden Jamatia (30), hailing from Chalita Bari and Dabit Zingsaisuye (woman) are undergoing treatment at SMCH in a critical condition.
Other than that, Pharap Das, Victor Debbarma, Manik Debbarma, Rahul Kapali, Sohag Das and Bisnath Singh (second driver) are admitted at HJO PHC with simple injuries.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has expressed deep concern over this tragic accident. In his social media post, Dr Saha described the incident as “saddening” and expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.
The chief minister also wished speedy recovery of the injured persons.
Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Choudhury who is also looking into the case informed that the department and the state government has taken all necessary steps to assist the injured. Also, arrangements are being made to bring back the body of deceased Debraj Debbarma.
Deputy Collector and Magistrate Genius Debbarma has been sent to the spot, on behalf of the state government to provide necessary assistance.
