Kanchanpur, April 25: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan lost his life under tragic circumstances while on election duty for the Lok Sabha elections in East Tripura’s Kanchanpur (2nd seat).
The deceased jawan, identified as Rakesh Nargis Keshav (27), hailed from Latur, Maharashtra, and was a member of Battalion 199.
His assignment involved election duty from the Panisagar headquarters to the Purana Camp of Assam Rifles in Subhashnagar.
The incident unfolded late last night as the jawan was traveling by bus during his duty. The bus traversed the new bridge construction site on the Mizoram and Tripura highway, situated near a petrol pump.
Unfortunately, the temporary road created due to ongoing construction was in a severely deplorable state.
According to reliable sources, the jawan’s weapon accidentally discharged while the bus navigated this rough road, resulting in his tragic demise by own weapon.
It has been reported that security personnel of other forces were also present on the bus at the time of the incident.
The body of the deceased jawan has been transferred to the Kanchanpur District Hospital for an autopsy to be conducted on Thursday, as confirmed by Dr. Tanuj Das.
